Over the centuries
mankind has used thousands of different tools to create some of the most
beautiful masterpieces the world has ever known. Painters have used brushes and
color to share the images of their mind’s eye. With hammer and nails, great
builders have made structures that have reached into the heavens. Writers using
imagination, pen, and paper have produced stories that have entirely captured
our hearts. All these things have required different skills and instruments,
but each individual using these items has something in common.
Every person
carries the genes of the first man created, named Adam. Adam was created in the
image of God; the creator of not only man, but all of the universe and time
itself. As God was speaking the moon into existence, He also gave the moon its
task of controlling the ocean tides. The same goes for every creature and thing
God created, including us. Only with people God gave certain gifts and
abilities to certain persons, and to others a different set.
The abilities God
has given to each of us are not our own to hoard for ourselves. They are not
for raking in stacks of cash or scaling the walls of fame. These gifts are
meant to be shared with others, helping other people who are in need of our
services. For each person is a tool in the Maker’s box, individually crafted
for a specific task, and only in His hand will we be able to fulfill our
purpose.
1 Peter 4:10 (ESV) As each has
received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied
grace:
